Kontako, from ´Anison´ to Rock
There is an undefined number of hobbies in which music has a predominant role to the point of creating bands and musical projects. This is the case of the so-called ´Anison´, a musical style with which Japanese anime and other recreational activities derived from it are identified.
They call themselves authentic ´otakus´ followers of manga and anime, precisely in the style of Naruto, Dragon Ball, Sailor Moon, Death Note, to mention the best known. They are Kontako, a rock band that wants to demostrate that ´anison´ is not exclusive to events and conventions in the industry.
The group from Xalapa was born in 2017 at the time of the Expo Animex held in the capital since a couple of years ago, but it is in 2018 when their performances become recurrent in this type of events, performing on stages in Puebla and Mexico City together with related bands such as Berney Gombo and Chotgun.
After the Covid-19 pandemic, Kontako is concentrating on the recording of their first production, an EP that alternates original material and covers of ´Anison´ songs, entitled ´No le Sake´, and which was released just last year.
The name of the band comes from a play on words, considering themselves ´otakus´ and loyal fans of tacos; It is made up by Cybele (vocals), Ricardo Banda (bass), Edwin ´Homúnculo´ Tejeda (drums), Ángel ´Hashi´ Gamboa (Guitar) and Octavio Mesa (guitar, after several changes in their lineup).
Their perfomances are an audiovisual experience, since their concept is seasoned with costumes, makeup and accesories, typical of the so-called ‘cosplayers´.
Kontako is a young project that was born from a playful hobby and little by little has become a group that explores and tries to incorporate other sounds to get more followers, beyond the geek circle in which they operate.
Kontako is our musical recommendation of the week, listen to their proposal through the frecuencies and digital platforms of Radio Más.
